Getting Involved

If you want to get involved with The Left Berlin, you can do so by either writing articles for publication, or joining our team.

We have online editorial meetings every Tuesday, and reserve the beginning of the first editorial meeting of the month to welcome new people. If you’d like to join, get in touch and we’ll send over the link.

The website is is also part of the larger group, The Left Berlin, which organizes political events in Berlin. If that’s something that sounds appealing, we have an open organizing meeting on the first Monday of the month. We always have running projects and work to do, and we welcome everyone to get involved.

Writing articles

If you want to write an article to be published on The Left Berlin, please send us a pitch using the contact form. We have a two-step editorial process, where the article is first reviewed by an input team for content, and then sent over to a daily editor for style and proofreading. You can find our article guidelines here.

Would you rather join The Left Berlin team? We’re always looking for people to help out! See below our different roles and teams, and get in touch with us via the contact form.

Newsletter

We send out a weekly newsletter, which you can subscribe to here. The newsletter team writes and edits it, as well as searches for news from Berlin and Germany to include.

Translation

We translate articles from many languages to publish in English, and are always looking to broaden the scope of what we publish. We’re especially looking for German, Spanish, and Arabic translators. We focus on publishing things that are not available in English elsewhere.

Tech support

This team keeps the website running and also works on updates to make things smoother. This includes customizing WordPress (plugins, themes, CSS) , and UX/UI design to make our website more beautiful.

Social media

This team is responsible for our accounts on Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, and Bluesky. This includes contributing ideas, strategy, graphic design, posting and managing messages and comments.

Editorial and input teams

The input team is responsible for doing a first review on an article and deciding if it should be published. The editorial team is responsible for editing in terms of style and proofreading.

If you have experience writing either journalistically or otherwise, maybe you’d like to consider joining one of these teams. This is, however, a more involved process during which we’d like to look at writing samples or other work you’ve done.

Hope to see you soon ❤️✊
