Supporting the victims of political repression
by The Left Berlin on 18/08/2026

Abolish Berlin is a relatively new collective. We aim to support people dealing with political repression and those in carceral structures, specifically prisons, through financial support and by inviting the wider community to engage with them via letter writing or learning their histories and experiences.

We met on the streets for Palestine in the last years and are still growing and developing our work, after forming the group only last year. For the time being we are focused on fundraising and community gatherings. Each event centres on a different person, group or structure in need of support.

Ultimately, our goal is to bring more attention and care towards prisoners as well as other groups of people who are consistently punished and dehumanised through carceral structures. For us this means first and foremost: prisons, (refugee) camps, the unhoused shelter system, psychiatry and all their supporting infrastructure.

We will join a fundraiser at K-fetisch on the 20th August 2026, to raise funds for a family in Gaza, offering a letter writing station to write to various prisoners in and outside of Germany including the Ulm5, prisoners in Palestine and on the Greek border. In September we will host our own event at K-fetisch. You can follow our Instagram @abolish.berlin for more details that will be coming soon.

We firmly believe that prisons and penal systems in general should not exist, although we are aware that in reality, they are not going away any time soon. So while we work toward a world where social control and punishment are obsolete, we try to create pockets of resistance through breaking these (metaphorical) walls via mutual aid, education and loving support.
