The French presidential elections will be taking place in April. The current polls expect a second round contest between neoliberal Emanuel Macron and Nazi Marine Le Pen – just like 5 years ago.

The left is putting forward several candidates – five from the mainstream left/Greens and several more from the revolutionary left. And yet the only person who looks likely to challenge Macron and Le Pen from the left is Jean-Luc Mélenchon from the radical (but not revolutionary) La France Insoumise (LFI),

In the run-up to the elections, die LINKE Berlin Internationals invite you to a discussion with Danièle Obono, LFI MP, who will be talking about the left electoral challenge, but also her experience as a Black woman in a system which privileges rich white men.

As well as discussing LFI and the French Left, Danièle will be talking about the new challenge from Eric Zemmour, a leading right wing candidate who almost makes Le Pen look moderate. She will be talking about how the Yellow Vest movement has impacted upon French political life and how we can build a serious socialist left.

Danièle will address the charges of Islamogauchisme (Islamo-leftism) – the charge levelled by the media and right-wing politicians that there is a conspiracy between Muslims and socialists to take over society. Who are making these attacks, nd how are they able to get away with it?

The meeting will be taking place in the Afrika Haus (Bochumer Straße 25. U-Bahn Turmstraße) on Saturday, 5^th March at 6pm. It will be conducted in English. Everyone is invited to join the debate.

Danièle will also be attending the German premiere of Debout les Femmes!, a new film about recent resistance by working class women. One of the film’s directors François Ruffin is also an LFI MP-

Debout les Femmes! will be shown at Kino Moviemento on Friday 4^th March at 7pm and at the Afrika Haus on Saturday 5^th March at 3pm. By both showings, the film will be followed by a discussion with Danièle and the film’s producer Thibault Lhonneur. This discussion will be in English on Friday and French on Saturday.
