Cables of Resistance

Controlling Technology
by Phil Butland on 20/10/2026

Cables of Resistance is a coordination of movements, organizations, and activists engaged in different forms of resistance against Big Tech and its growing power over our societies, economies and lives.

In April 2026, we organised our first gathering in Berlin: “Cables of Resistance: A Movement Conference,” bringing together around 900 participants for nearly 100 sessions.

From environmental struggles and labour organising to feminist resistance, surveillance and militarisation, the conference connected movements fighting on different fronts against digital capitalism and technofeudalism.

But the conference was only the beginning. We are witnessing an unprecedented concentration of economic and political power built on the control of technology. In Berlin, this is reflected in the expansion of data centres, AI-powered surveillance cameras and mass surveillance. While Big Tech wants us to believe that nothing can be done, we know the answer is to keep organising, learning, building alliances and resisting and resisting.

Our next event, “CONTROLLING TECHNOLOGY: Connecting resistance against AI cameras, data centres and tech overlords,” brings together Cecilia Rikap, Ende Gelände, No Tech for Apartheid, and artists Lua & Melissa.

In an age of growing corporate control over technology, Big Tech increasingly concentrates economic and political power through data extraction, surveillance, militarisation and expanding digital infrastructures. How can we connect the struggles challenging this power?

We invite you to join Cecilia Rikap, presenting her new book The Rulers, alongside activists from Ende Gelände and No Tech for Apartheid, to explore connections between data centres, environmental destruction and AI-powered surveillance, including cameras installed in Berlin’s Kottbusser Tor.

Through research, art and grassroots activism, we aim to build alliances, exchange strategies and strengthen collective resistance. The evening opens with a performance.
