DESCRIPTION:The AfD is now the most popular political party in Germany\, and looks sets to make major gains in elections in Eastern Germany in September. Part of their programme is Remigration – the forced deportation of millions of people. It is becoming increasingly clear that the AfD is a Fascist party. \nMeanwhile\, in France Marine Le Pen’s Rassemblement National is gaining strength\, and the UK recently saw a Nazi demonstration of 100\,000 people. The far right is profiting from capitalist austerity\, and they are a danger to us all. \nWhy is the far right on the rise? Is it inevitable that they will continue to gain strength? Most importantly\, what can we do to stop them? Join anti-racist activists from Germany\, France\, and the UK to discuss how we can concretely organise against the new Nazis. \nThis meeting is part of the Left Berlin Summer Camp in the Naturfreundehaus Hermsdorf on 12-13 September.

Israel has continued to kill Palestinians\, in Gaza and elsewhere\, but the ceasefire has had a demobilising effect on the Palestine movement. \nMeanwhile\, in Germany\, the repression continues\, not least in the case of the Ulm5 who are facing heavy prison sentences as a result of a non-violent action against Elbit’s weapon factory in Ulm. \nIs it possible to maintain a mass movement for Palestine in Germany? How can we reach the people who demonstrated one year ago? What concretely can we do now? DESCRIPTION:The Left Berlin Summer Camp will be on 12th – 13th September in Naturfreundehaus Hermsdorf on the edge of Berlin. Summer Camp is an annual event where international activists and organisations based in or around Berlin get together to plan how we can change the world \nThis includes podium discussions on Germany and Palestine\, and the international fight against the far right\, there will be workshops on everything from organising your workplace to Iran. SUMMARY:Political Walking Tour: Unrest in Moabit
DESCRIPTION:We do this tour once a year on the anniversary of the biggest riots in Berlin’s history. \nWhen we picture riots in Berlin\, we all think of Kreuzberg. But 77 years before the Neighborhood Uprising in Kreuzberg\, Moabit saw the biggest riots in the city’s history. In 1910\, a run-of-the-mill strike by coalmen escalated. Within a week\, up to 30\,000 workers were on the streets fighting against police. This week of street battles became known as the Moabit Unrest. \nIn a two-hour walking tour\, we will look at Moabit’s enormous factories\, some of which are still standing. We will visit the bars where socialist workers got organized\, and look at spots where windows were smashed\, fires were started\, and shots rang out. Women workers played a prominent role in the unrest\, and we will see where journalists wrote about “bloodthirsty amazons.” \nOur tour will be meeting at the corner of Beusselstraße and Sickingenstraße\, near S-Bhf Beusselstraße\, in front of Hotel Sickinger Hof. We will meet at 17:30 and leave by 17:40. \nThe tour will end two hours later at the Amtsgericht\, near U-Bhf Turmstraße. We will not be using public transportation — the tour will be entirely outside. \nSuggested donation is 15 euros per person\, but any contribution is appreciated and none is required. \nYou can also pick up a signed copy of the book Revolutionary Berlin.

SUMMARY:Walking Tour: Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp Memorial
DESCRIPTION:We have reluctantly had to postpone this tour because of unnaturally hot expected weather (39°). The tour will now take place on Sunday\, September 6th. If you registered for the June 28th tour\, or would like to come this time\, please (re-)register by pressing the Going button at the bottom of this page. \nNazism did not emerge out of thin air. It was not a historical “accident\,” nor the product of a uniquely evil rupture disconnected from the rest of European history. This guided visit to the Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp Memorial approaches Nazism through the longer histories of colonialism\, imperialism\, scientific racism\, social Darwinism\, eugenics\, and racial capitalism that shaped the modern world long before 1933. \nTogether\, we will examine how European colonial violence laid ideological and institutional foundations that later reappeared inside Europe itself. We will discuss the origins of concentration camps in colonial contexts such as Spanish-ruled Cuba and British South Africa\, not to relativize Nazi crimes\, but to understand concentration camps as part of a broader history of imperial state violence. We will also reflect on genocide as a political category\, on why some genocides are memorialized while others are erased from dominant historical consciousness\, and on the role that racism played and continues to play in shaping who is considered fully human\, disposable\, or worthy of remembrance. \nThe visit will move through the historical context of World War I\, the Treaty of Versailles\, the economic and political crises of the 1920s\, and the rise and fall of the Nazis. At the memorial itself\, we will focus on the camp as a site initially designed to imprison and eliminate political opposition\, especially communists\, socialists\, trade unionists\, and other left-wing dissidents\, before later becoming a center of forced labor\, terror\, and systematic murder. We will also discuss how different political regimes\, including the Nazi state\, the GDR\, and the contemporary Federal Republic of Germany\, have each shaped the memorialization of the camp according to their own political priorities and narratives. \nOur guide holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and a Master’s degree in Social Sciences from Humboldt University of Berlin. His areas of specialization are the history of racism\, colonialism\, genocide\, and political violence. For the past four years\, he has worked as a freelance guide at the Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp Memorial and at other historical sites across Berlin. \nParticipation is free but we would welcome a donation (suggested amount: €20-€30) to Fundación Resistencia Antirracista for their work helping victims of the earthquake in Colombia who have been abandoned by the state. Give the money to us at the tour. No-one will be turned away from the tour because they don’t have the money. \nPlease note also that the Camp expects €3 from participants of guided tours. This money goes towards the Camp’s upkeep. As the tour takes several hours\, you may want to take food and water with you. The current weather forecast says that it will not be too hot. \nImportant information: \n\nThe visit lasts approximately 5 hours in total\, including travel time from Berlin and back.\nParticipants must purchase Berlin ABC train tickets in advance for both directions.\nThe bus connection between Oranienburg station and the memorial can be unreliable\, which may make participation difficult for people with limited mobility.\nSince there is no substantial break during the visit\, bringing water and a snack is strongly recommended.\nDue to memorial regulations\, the maximum group size is limited to 30 participants. DESCRIPTION:“Berlin has made the most unfavorable impression on me.” It is 1898 and Rosa Luxemburg has just arrived in the capital of the German Empire. She describes it in a letter as: “cold\, tasteless\, massive — a real barracks; and the dear Prussians with their arrogance\, as though every one of them had the stick up their ass with which they had once been beaten…” Fair to say it isn’t love at first sight\, but Luxemburg stays here until the bitter end. Berlin is her home for the next two decades. \nOn January 15\, 1919\, Rosa Luxemburg was murdered by proto-fascist paramilitaries under the orders of a social democratic government. 107 years after one of the most infamous political assassinations of the 20th century\, we are going to take a walking tour through Luxemburg’s Berlin: where she lived\, where she spent long nights writing during the revolution of 1918\, where she went into hiding as the counter-revolution closed in. \nOur tour will be meeting at Mehringplatz in Kreuzberg\, on the north side of the square at the exit of U6 Hallesches Tor\, where the escalator goes up toward Friedrichstraße. We will meet at 16:00 and leave by 16:10. \nThe tour will end roughly 2h45m later\, after two trips on the U-Bahn\, in Friedenau. \nSuggested donation is 15 euros per person\, but any contribution is appreciated and none is required. DESCRIPTION:This tour will take place a week before the Internationalist Queer Pride demonstration\, which we highly recommend. \nBerlin has been known as a queer capital for more than a century. In the 1920s\, in the 1970s\, and today\, nowhere has been gayer than the Rainbow Neighborhood around Nollendorfplatz. The queer liberation movement took off in Germany at the end of the 19th century. But persecution under the infamous Paragraph 175 continued for more than a century. \nIn this Kiez\, queer people established cafés\, nightclubs\, bookstores\, and youth centers — and occupied buildings as well. We will visit the homes of Audre Lorde\, Christopher Isherwood\, Rosa von Praunheim\, August Bebel\, the Homosexual Action West Berlin\, and more. \nOur tour will be meeting at Nollendorfplatz\, in the middle of the square\, on the south side of the elevated station\, next to the plaque for the homosexual victims of fascism. We will meet at 14:00 and leave by 14:10. The tour will end two hours later near Yorckstraße. Wedding had tenements and terrible poverty\, but also reform schools\, socialist art\, and a proud proletarian culture. On May 1\, 1929\, Kösliner Straße — the reddest street in Berlin’s reddest district — saw the worst police violence in Berlin’s history. \nOur tour will walk along a stream (the Panke) and look at the origins of Red Wedding: how it grew from a spa town outside Berlin into an urban industrial neighborhood. We will see massive factories — some of which have been converted into art spaces. We will follow the footsteps of the communist doctor Georg Benjamin (the little brother of Walter) who worked to improve the lives of Wedding’s working class. \nOur tour will be meeting at Badstraße 38\, right where Badstraße crosses the Panke\, a few minutes from U-Bhf Pankstraße. We will meet at 14:00 and leave by 14:10. We will walk along the river and the tour will end two hours later near S-Bhf Humboldthain. The tour will be entirely outside. \nSuggested donation is 15 euros per person\, but any contribution is appreciated and none is required. You can also pick up a signed copy of the book “Revolutionary Berlin” which we reviewed here. \nThis walking tour is part of the mobilization against the planned weapons factory in Wedding.

DESCRIPTION:Queer Cinema for Palestine (QCP) announces No Pride in Genocide (June 2026)\, a global film event\, co-organized by the Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel (PACBI). The fourth edition of QCP invites grassroots\, solidarity and arts organizations across the world to host screenings of a stellar collectively curated short film program throughout the month of June 2026. \nQueer Cinema for Palestine began as an alternative ethical space for filmmakers who pulled or refused to show their work in the Israeli government-sponsored TLVFest LGBTQ Film Festival. Over the past six years\, hundreds of filmmakers have shown their solidarity in response to the boycott call from queer and trans Palestinians. As Israel continues its genocide and ethnic cleansing in Gaza\, the West Bank\, and across historic Palestine and throughout the region\, we condemn this violence and the might-makes-right order\, and stand in solidarity with Palestinians. \nIsrael continues to attempt to instrumentalize our identities as queer and trans people to justify its genocide against Palestinians\, including murdering\, blackmailing\, and imprisoning queer and trans Palestinians. Accordingly\, our festival will take place during June 2026\, the month that marks Pride in many countries worldwide. We do so to continue our refusal of Israel’s pinkwashing.
