In this session of The Left Berlin Film Club, we will dive into the history of the Black Panthers, specifically through two short films that explore key moments in the party's history.
We begin our session with *Black Panthers* (1968) by Agnès Varda. The film focuses on the Black Panther Party in Oakland, California, during the protests following the arrest of its co-founder, Huey P. Newton, for the murder of police officer John Frey in 1967.
Next, we will present, in an exclusive Berlin premiere, *The Black Panthers of Algeria*, a short film that closely examines the history of solidarity between the African American liberation movement and the Algerian Revolution, and how Algeria became a mecca for liberation movements worldwide.
Following the screening, there will be a Q&A session with director Mohamed Benloulou and Ryan Mahan, a member of Algiers (the band).
To cover the venue fee, we suggest a small donation fee starting at 2 euros.
