Unsere Stimme Zählt (Our Voice Counts) has come together to demand a life of dignity for ourselves and our children—a world free from racism (such as anti-Arab and anti-Muslim racism) that offers fair opportunities for all and peace. Through a social media campaign, panel discussions, and key policy questions addressed to political candidates, we aim to challenge the political establishment.
The initiative Unsere Stimme zählt! – Für Teilhabe und Antirassismus (Our Voice Counts! – For Participation and Anti-Racism) was founded in 2021. Operating on a non-partisan and interfaith basis, it aims to champion and demand the inclusion of specific policy priorities held by German-Arab voters during election campaigns for the Bundestag, the Berlin House of Representatives, and Berlin’s district assemblies.
We are part of society—working in schools and hospitals, as social workers, as the self-employed, and much more. Yet, when we look for work or housing, we face discrimination because of our names and our religion. Few people with a background of migration hold key positions in society. We demand equal access to all areas of society—at long last.
We stand against racism in all its forms and in all sectors of society—whether in government agencies, the media, or the workplace. We refuse to be divided, and we are no longer willing to tolerate the racism directed at us—racism intended to exclude us and to divide society.
We are taking our destiny into our own hands and taking action. In the run-up to the elections and beyond, we will strengthen the community and exert pressure through campaigns, meetings, and events.
On Thursday, 3rd October (6pm – 8pm in bUm), and Thursday 10th October (6pm-8pm in the Schiller library), we are organising two information evenings to enable people with a migration background, and first-time and new voters, to get informed and engage in conversation with candidates from democratic parties.
We offer information and positions on important subjects like participation and equal opportunities, education and work, anti-discrimination and living together in our diverse city. You will have the opportunity to ask your own questions and to raise concerns. Entry is free.
